About Me
Hi there! My name is Jem Kogen. I have been coaching tennis for over a decade and have been playing for more than twice that. Tennis is the best sport in the world and I want to give back what the sport has given me. Whether I'm playing or teaching, I have a passion for both. For those out there willing to learn and improve, I'm your coach.
While growing up in Massachusetts, I was part of my club's championship Junior Team Tennis league. I then went on to play No. 1 singles for my high school team all four years. Thereafter, I attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. After four great years, in 2013, I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in Spanish.
A couple years post-graduation, I decided I wanted to share my love of the sport, so I became certified by the governing body of tennis coaching, the Racquet Sports Professionals Association. Shortly afterwards, I moved to California in 2015 and have been coaching ever since.
Of course, I do take breaks from tennis sometimes. When I’m not on the court, I enjoy going to comedy shows, and I will even write my own SNL-type sketch when feeling inspired. I love my friends and hanging out with them. Many are still on the east coast, however we are able to stay in touch often.
Last things about me that I know you’ve been wondering… I do watch anime, I do play Super Smash Bros., and I obviously have a real estate license in CA which I hang at Douglas Elliman, but more on that another time.
